A new report is revealing the difference between priorities in crime rates and COVID-19 for certain Democratic leaders in cities.
National Review reported that the numbers of murders in Washington, D.C. during the time period when the city did not have a mask mandate in place outpaced the number of COVID-19 deaths.
The outlet reported, fatalities that occurred from COVID-19 in between the time period of November 22nd, 2021, and December 21st, 2021, were eleven. During that same time period, the number of deaths that occurred from homicide were fourteen.
“During the roughly four weeks in which D.C.’s mask mandate was not in force, America’s capitol city registered 14 homicides — and eleven deaths from Covid-19,” it noted.
Democratic Mayor of Washington, D.C., Muriel Bowser, ended the mask mandate on November 22nd, but put it back into place for public areas on December 21st.
The report pointed out how the numbers show a difference in priorities and strategies regarding the two issues.
Last year, Bowser stated that gun violence is a public health crisis.
National Review reported, “Focused ‘on the people and the places most likely to experience gun violence using a collaborative, whole-community, public health approach,’ the District’s latest anti-crime interventions target high-risk city blocks.”
The newest implementation of COVID-19 rules and mandates do not apply differently to parts of the city that are more at risk than others.
The mayor recently went a step further and implemented a vaccine mandate for the city, as well.
The mayor issued an order, noting that on January 15, 2022, “the District of Columbia will adopt a city wide vaccination entry requirement that requires COVID-19 vaccination to enter indoor facilities within the city.” The indoor establishments include restaurants, nightclubs, taverns, coffee shops, and food halls. Indoor cultural and entertainment venues include places like concert venues, movie theaters, and bowling alleys. Gyms and indoor event and meeting establishments, like conferences, are also included.
“Before patrons can access the indoor portion of the business, a business is required to check the patron’s proof of vaccination,” the mayor’s website stated.
The mayor has come under criticism lately for intensive COVID-19 policies.
Thousands of protesters took to the streets in Washington, D.C., over the weekend to take part in a “Defeat the Mandates” rally against mandated vaccinations and COVID-19 rules.
Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) recently “introduced a joint resolution on Thursday to stop a Washington, D.C., COVID-19 vaccine mandate for K-12th grade students from going into effect,” The Daily Wire reported.
“The resolution seeks to use the Home Rule Act passed in 1973 that allows Congress to retain the right to oversee city governance in the District of Columbia,” The Daily Wire added.
“No petty tyrant, whether in a federal agency, state governor’s mansion, or city council should be able to force COVID vaccines on children – much less threaten to take away their right to an education for not complying. COVID policies should be based on science and common sense, not the hysterical demands of radical liberal activists and union bosses who have no interest in what’s best for our children,” Cruz said in a statement.
“Muriel Bowser and the rest of the Democrat party have proven they are willing to do anything to keep kids out of the classroom,” Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), who co-sponsored the legislation, said in the statement.
“The vaccine mandates have never been about science – they’re about big government controlling your life. It’s time for Washington to follow the example of the Volunteer State and do what’s best for our children and grandchildren,” she added.
The vaccine mandate went into effect on January 15th, and the student vaccine mandate is scheduled for March 1st.
