When you’re getting blown out by a division rival, sometimes tensions can boil over.
Following another touchdown drive by the Dallas Cowboys early in the second quarter, Washington Football Team teammates Jonathan Allen and Daron Payne were caught by NBC cameras having to be seperated after Allen took a swing at Payne.

Payne could be seen putting his finger into the side of Allen’s head, who responded by taking a swing at Payne’s face. Payne told reporters after Washington’s 56-14 blowout loss that it was a “brotherly disagreement.” The two teammates played at the University of Alabama together from 2015-2016.
“Just a little brotherly disagreement; maybe the wrong place, wrong time, but it happened,” Payne said.
Washington head coach Ron Rivera said the altercation occurred due to frustration, with the last few weeks — the Football Team has now lost three straight — adding fuel to the fire.
“Yeah, frustration, you know? Wanting to win,” Rivera said when asked if the fight was indicative of bigger picture things. “Having an opportunity for the last few weeks and not being able to get it done. Not being able to have all the pieces in place that you need to go out there and play together. That’s what that is. That’s guys wanting to compete and wanting to win, more than anything else.”
Washington was never in the game Sunday night, quickly going down 21-0 and heading into halftime facing a 42-7 deficit.
“I don’t think it takes a rocket scientist,” Allen said about why it started. “If you look at how that game went, emotions are high, things are high, things happen.”
“When something happens on the field, you never let it carry into the locker room,” Allen said. “Things get heated, we fix them, we sit down as grown men and we move on.
The 56 points was the most given up by a Washington defense since 2010, dropping the Football Team to 6-9 on the season as the Cowboys officially wrapped up the NFC East title on Sunday. Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott threw four touchdowns on the night, finishing the game 28-39 for 330 yards. It was the most points scored by Dallas since the 1980 season.
“I thought he was in total control,” Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy said. “His numbers in the first half reflect that. Had some shot opportunities, was patient with the checkdowns. I really like the way he played tonight.”
Washington is not yet eliminated from playoff contention, though their chances are bleak. They have two games remaining on the schedule, with a visit from the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday. A loss to the Eagles will officially eliminate the Football Team from the playoffs.
