Conservative host and comedian Steven Crowder was told this week by Big Tech platform YouTube that his channel will be banned for the rest of the year.

Aside from a very general indication that he somehow violated a “hate speech” clause, Crowder and his team were not told specifically what triggered the ban.

Here’s YouTube’s very general policy on “hate speech”:

Hate speech is not allowed on YouTube. We remove content promoting violence or hatred against individuals or groups based on any of the following attributes:

  • Age
  • Caste
  • Disability
  • Ethnicity
  • Gender Identity and Expression
  • Nationality
  • Race
  • Immigration Status
  • Religion
  • Sex/Gender
  • Sexual Orientation
  • Victims of a major violent event and their kin
  • Veteran Status

Announcing their ban this week, Crowder’s team criticized YouTube for not informing them of when the “catchall” “hate speech” policy was supposedly violated, mocking that they can’t read the CEO’s mind.

“Somebody gets offended: ‘hate speech,’” the team mocked, adding,  “How about, if you’re tying to improve the environment, you help us understand where we went wrong.”
