Democrat Wisconsin Lt. Governor and U.S. Senate candidate Mandela Barnes referred to America’s founding as “awful” in a resurfaced clip from last year.

Barnes, who was endorsed by far-Left Democrat Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY), made the remarks in an August 2021 speech, according to Fox News.

“Things were bad. Things were terrible,” he said. “The founding of this nation? Awful. You know, but we are here now and we should commit ourselves to doing everything we can do to repair the harm because it still exists today – the harm, the damage – whether it was colonization, whether it was slavery, the impacts are felt today, they’re going to continue to be felt unless we address it in a meaningful way.”

Barnes, who is running against Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI), is the state’s first black lieutenant governor.

Barnes’ campaign claims that his remarks were nothing more than “a condemnation of slavery” and that any attempt to suggest otherwise was “a sad GOP attempt to distract” from the January 6, 2021, riot.
