There are still some parts of the country requiring masks indoors, yet some elites are allowed to ignore those rules while those lower on the totem are required to adhere.
The latest example comes from California State University-Northridge (CSUN), where multiple dignitaries were photographed without masks indoors during the investiture ceremony for the university’s sixth president, Dr. Erika Beck.
As The College Fix reported, the ceremony was held at the performing arts center at the Los Angeles-based public university, and while CSUN still requires students and faculty to mask while indoors, pictures show high-level administrators flouting this requirement. It wasn’t attendees pointing out the hypocrisy, the university’s online newsroom proudly displayed the photos on its website, which showed multiple administrators without masks standing in front of numerous students who were wearing masks. The university also shared photos on its official Twitter account.
An anonymous university source told The Fix that “California State University, Northridge held its investiture ceremony for its new incoming president and proudly posted photos on its Twitter feed showing unmasked high-level administrators indoors, while students and visitors are still under strict university orders to wear masks indoors.”
The source asked The Fix in an email: “Will anyone call attention to the pointless forced masking of students and everyone indoors on campus that continues despite statewide pullbacks of restrictions? And why is the university proudly displaying its open defiance of its own orders?”
One of the photos shared by the university shows President Beck and several other high-level administrators not wearing masks. The other administrators pictured are “CSUN President Emerita Jolene Koester, prominent CSUN alumnus David Nazarian, President Beck, CSUN Foundation Board Chair Robert Taylor and CSU Acting Chancellor Steve Relyea,” according to The Fix. The university also retweeted a post from Ellen Neufeldt, president of CSU-San Marcos, that included a photo of the president and another maskless individual inside the event.
Ravi Rajan, president of CalArts, posted a photo also showing numerous high-level individuals not wearing masks amongst masked students.
The California Department of Health stopped requiring even unvaccinated individuals to wear masks indoors earlier this month, yet CSUN has kept the requirement on campus.
“While Los Angeles County Department of Public Health has relaxed its indoor mask requirement, at this time, CSUN plans to maintain indoor mask requirements for all students, faculty and staff, regardless of vaccination status, throughout the spring semester,” CSUN’s main webpage says.
CSUN is simply the latest example of elites forcing others to mask while they do not. Another recent exampled involved Democratic Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams, who posed maskless with a large group of masked school children. Abrams shared the photo herself and was called out for her hypocrisy, apologizing two days later. Before that, Abrams tried to attack her critics for pointing it out, claiming “our opponents are using a Black History Month reading event for Georgia children as the impetus for a false political attack,” even though she shared the photo herself.
