“The View” cohost Meghan McCain claimed Monday that President Joe Biden is spiritually harming both himself and the country with his stance on abortion.

During a panel discussion regarding the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) recently voting overwhelmingly to draft a document that could lead to a rebuke of publicly pro-abortion Catholic politicians such as Biden and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), McCain responded firstly to the claim that the Catholic Church should have no say in U.S. politics.

“When it comes to the separation of church and state, the onus is on the government, not the church,” McCain said. “The Church is always going to try and impede in every possible way they can, and influence in every way they can. Everybody’s spiritual journey and relationship with God and their church is their own personal journey, and I don’t try and proselytize my spirituality on other people. But if you are a devout Catholic, as President Biden claims to be, abortion is a cardinal sin that can do deep spiritual harm to you.”

McCain went on to note how Biden, even though he claimed otherwise during the campaign, supports the Hyde Amendment, which permits federal funding for abortion.

“I know the women on this show disagree with me, but as far as I’m concerned, abortion is murder, and that means the government funding of killing of the unborn. And we have to, as pro-lifers, fight for the rights of the unborn, and that is a doctrine that is as old as the Catholic Church itself,” McCain continued.

McCain went on to counter Biden’s position that he personally opposes abortion but does not support imposing his views on others.

“It’s like saying, ‘Personally I’m opposed to murder but if you want to murder a little bit it’s fine because it’s not my problem,’ ” she said. “It doesn’t register with me. I don’t get it. So it’s ultimately up to the Church. But he’s walking a very fine line here, and ultimately, all of these issues are literally life and death for Catholics, for devout Christians. And he’s ultimately going to have to talk to his Creator when the time comes, as we all do, and reconcile his politics with his personal faith.”

“I believe he’s doing grave spiritual harm to himself and harm to this country,” McCain concluded.

As The Daily Wire reported regarding the pending document from the USCCB:

The American Catholic hierarchy has yet to address the contents of the document, but according to the National Catholic Reporter, the document is “slated to include a section on ‘Eucharistic consistency’ and Catholic politicians.”

“The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops this week voted to move forward on several action items, including a draft of a teaching document on the Eucharist,” Catholic News Agency reported Friday, adding that the document is to be considered “a formal statement on the meaning of the Eucharist in the life of the Church.”
