Celebrities, including actors Robert De Niro and Michael B. Jordan, actresses and singers Jennifer Lopez and Lady Gaga, and tennis star Serena Williams collaborated on a video to push a seal for buildings called the “WELL Health-Safety Seal,” which is offered by a group called the International WELL Building Institute.

Although the celebrities insist that the seal indicates the building is more safe, tiny print at the very end of the video states, “Achievement of the Well Health Safety Rating does not guarantee that a space is safe or free from pathogens. You should adhere to local laws and public health guidelines when indoors …”

According to the New York Post, the project received $108 million from Tampa Bay Lightning hockey team owner Jeff Vinik, Hong Kong developer Sino-Ocean Land Holdings, and Bill Gates-owned management firm Cascade Investment.

“If you want to get back to your favorite places and feel confident they have put your health and safety first —” Lopez starts.

Jordan continues, “Look for the Well Health and Safety Seal.”

Dr. Richard Carmona, a former Surgeon General of the United States who ran as a Democrat in an unsuccessful bid for the Arizona seat in the United States Senate, then states, “I’m Dr. Richard Carmona. This is the Well Health and Safety Seal, from the International WELL Building Institute, the global authority and healthy buildings.”

Paul Scialla, the founder of the International WELL Building Institute, asserts, “The Well Health Safety rating was informed by years of research and input from hundreds of leading virologists, public health experts, epidemiologists, and building professionals around the world.”

“The Well Health Safety Seal means that we’ll feel better going into restaurants,” Lady Gaga states.

“Theaters, stores, hotels,” Lopez chimes in.

“Stadiums and all the places that we love,” Jordan adds.

De Niro says, “Everything may look the same, but the WELL Health-Safety Seal means that your health and safety are top of mind when it comes to —”

“Cleaning and sanitizing procedures,” the video continues.

“Air and water quality management,” Williams intones.

Jordan: “Emergency preparedness programs.”

“And health services,” adds the video.

Lopez: “So look for the ‘WELL Health-Safety Seal’ outside.”

Lady Gaga: “And feel more confident going inside.”

Companies must comply with at least 15 of 22 COVID-19 standards to get the seal. “Many of the requirements are not exactly lofty, and some are already mandated by law,” the Post notes. “Nothing is verified by on-site inspectors. Instead applicants simply supply a ‘professional narrative’ or a company policy or operations schedule.”

The outlet reports that over 17,000 people have taken or signed up for the test and over 20,000 projects have been certified or enrolled in the program, with 600 buildings in New York City having received the seal.
