Joy Behar mocked former First Lady Melania Trump, alluding to racy photos she had posed for in her modeling days, for claiming that Vogue’s decision to not offer her a magazine cover was rooted in political bias.
Behar made the comments during Tuesday’s broadcast of “The View” on ABC, which was co-hosted by former White House Press Secretary — and former spokeswoman for Melania Trump — Stephanie Grisham.

Co-host Whoopi Goldberg kicked off the segment with a clip from a recent interview of the former first lady, hosted by Fox News host Pete Hegseth. Trump said that she believed the media in general — and Vogue as well — was biased against her.
“I had much more important things to do, and I did in the White House, than being on the cover of Vogue,” she said, brushing off the magazine’s refusal to put her on the cover during her husband’s presidency [she did appear on the cover of Vogue in 2005].
“What did she do?” Behar asked. “She turned that beautiful Rose Garden into a cemetery. That’s one thing she did. What did she do exactly? Honestly, I don’t care what she does. I really don’t care. Do you?”
“You know what, she was first and foremost a mother, and she was a very good mother and prioritized her son first. I will say that, and her initiatives were important to her,” Grisham pushed back.
“What are the initiatives?” Behar asked.
“Online safety, opioids, and just helping children with emotional intelligence, et cetera,” Grisham replied in defense of her former employer, adding that she thought Vogue should have put Melania on the cover while she was first lady.
“We’ve seen a lot of photographs online, though,” Behar joked, clearly referring to nude photos Trump had posed for in her modeling days.
“Again, I know it’s easy to take potshots at her, and trust me, I would like to as well, but I think for this topic, there was bias there,” Grisham tried once again to defend her former boss. “But I will also say when Vogue came to us and asked if she would do a shoot, she would only do a shoot if she could be on the cover.”
“She’s a model and she knows how this works,” Goldberg objected, noting that the magazine had the right to say who would and would not grace the cover.
“She expected to be on the cover but again rightfully so, she had seen all the other First Ladies on the cover, so I do get that,” Grisham pushed back.
Fox News noted that Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour is a longtime Democratic supporter, suggesting that the move may have, as Trump suggested, been rooted in political bias.
Michelle Obama, for example, graced Vogue’s cover three times while she was first lady. Jill Biden has already done a Vogue cover, and former First Lady Hillary Clinton did one as well. Vice President Kamala Harris got her month on the magazine’s cover before she was even inaugurated.
Former First Lady Laura Bush, the next most recent Republican first lady, did not get a Vogue cover either – but she was featured in a story.
