Federalist Publisher and Fox News Contributor Ben Domenech said on “Special Report with Bret Baier” Thursday Democrats should approach the latest episode of antisemitism from Minnesota Rep. Ilham Omar with greater concern.
On Monday, Omar ignited another feud within her party when she equated the United States and Israel with Hamas, a State Department-designated terrorist group, and the Taliban.
“We must have the same level of accountability and justice for all victims of crimes against humanity,” Omar wrote in a post questioning of Secretary of State Antony Blinken. “We have seen unthinkable atrocities committed by the U.S., Hamas, Israel, Afghanistan, and the Taliban.”
A dozen Democrats rebuked Omar’s comments in a response statement, provoking House Democratic leadership to publish a letter shortly after that warned against “drawing false equivalencies,” but fell short of decrying the remarks as antisemitic.
“There has been an increased rise in antisemitic attacks across the country in ways that should disturb all of us,” Domenech said. “I would expect that we would have more moral authority from the kind of leadership that we have seen historically from the Democratic Party in rejecting racism when it comes to this type of activity.”
Domenech said the Democrats’ failure was a signal of antisemitic acceptance “putting peoples’ lives in danger,” while others such as The Bulwark’s Bill Kristol come to Omar’s defense.
“She’s entitled to ask questions,” Kristol said, adding he thought Democrats “did a pretty good job politically.”
Failure for the Democratic Party to fully condemn Omar’s frequent antisemitism, Domenech said, “should disturb us” while attacks on Jews in America are on the rise.
“There’s all sorts of irresponsible members who were elected to Congress over the years, this is not a new thing,” Domenech said. “But in this instance, in this moment, we are seeing this rise in antisemitic attacks that must be met and met forcefully in order to stop it and cut it off.”
