Former New York Senator and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton added her voice to those calling for an investigation into claims of sexual harassment by former subordinates of New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo.
“These stories are difficult to read, and the allegations brought forth raise serious questions that the women who have come forward and all New Yorkers deserve answers to,” Clinton said in a statement to Fox News.
Clinton’s call comes a day after New York Attorney General Letitia James demanded Cuomo give her the authority to probe the accusations, which followed calls from state Democratic elected officials for Cuomo to either resign or allow the investigation. Cuomo granted James to appoint a special counsel on Sunday.
The wave of criticism against Cuomo came following a second accusation of inappropriate behavior by a New York state employee, 25-year-old executive assistant and health policy adviser Charlotte Bennett who left the administration in November.
Bennett claims Cuomo asked her questions she considered suggestive, which followed New York City Manhattan borough president candidate Lindsey Boylan, who detailed similar allegations.
Cuomo has said he “never made advances toward Ms. Bennett, nor did I ever intend to act in any way that was inappropriate.”
