The White House changed the name of Vice President Kamala Harris’ husband from “Doug” to “Douglas” Emhoff in an apparent attempt to change his public facing name by rebranding him as a more important guy, according to a statement, reported Fox News.

Known by some for his silly dad jokes and informal sport jacket and T-shirt style, the 56-year-old lawyer underwent the moniker makeover in Biden team press releases before becoming Second Gentleman, Politico reported Wednesday.

He is henceforth to be known as Douglas Emhoff, second gentleman of the United States of America, reported Politico.

His Twitter handle was @DouglasEmhoff, although his Twitter account name remained “Doug.” His webpage at his most recent law firm DLA Piper still lists him as “Doug” (though his email address used “Douglas,”) according to Politico.

But a week before the inauguration, the Biden team ditched Doug for Douglas in press releases and advisories and have not gone back, according to the Fox.

But a spokesman for Emhoff on Wednesday called the name change a non-story, Fox reported.

“Safe to say like most people, his full and abbreviated names have always been used interchangeably,” the rep told Politico.

Emhoff is first second gentleman of the U.S., and all the decisions he makes — the cut of the tux he wears to his first state dinner; how often he travels with his wife; how public he, the first Jewish person in that post, is with his religious practices— will set a template for how future second (or first!) gentlemen behave, according to Politico.
