Nearly two-thirds of New Yorkers say Gov. Andrew Cuomo should not get another term, according to a poll conducted by a News10/Emerson College poll and released Tuesday.
A majority of Democrats, however, still backed the 63-year-old three-term Democrat, with 52% saying he should be re-elected in 2022 while 48% say he should not.
The results for the ABC network affiliate WTEN in Albany, New York, come after Cuomo has been accused of concealing the actual number of nursing home deaths related to COVID-19 and also of accusations of unwanted sexual advances by two former New York government workers and inappropriately touching another woman at a wedding.
A CAPS-Harris poll released Monday said 71% of voters wanted Cuomo impeached if he hid data on the nursing home deaths.
The News10/Emerson College poll said only 38% approve of Cuomo’s job performance while 48% disapprove.
Regarding the sexual harassment accusations, 89% say they know something about the claims, including 50% who say they know a lot and 39% who say they know a little.
Only 32% of those say they are satisfied with Cuomo’s response to the claims while 42% are unsatisfied.
Thirty-eight percent of those surveyed say they believe Cuomo engaged in the behavior and made the comments he’s accused of, while 18% said he did not.
The poll of 700 registered voters was conducted Monday and Tuesday and were weighted for gender, age, education, race, party affiliation, and region. It had a margin of error of plus-or-minus 3.6 percentage points.
