New York’s Democrat Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins said Gov. Andrew Cuomo should step down if one more person accuses him of sexual harassment.
Her comments came Thursday during an interview on Spectrum News.
“Any further people coming forward, I would think it would be time for him to resign,” she said. “Quite honestly, I am so, so disappointed that here we are in 2021 and we are having these conversations on the heels of #MeToo.”
Stewart-Cousins revealed she has not spoken with the governor since the allegations were made public.
“I am at a place, and we are all at this place, where it’s always hard when you think something is resolved, and find that there is still so much work to do,” she said. “I applaud women who have been through this for coming forward.”
Cuomo, besieged by sexual harassment allegations, apologized Wednesday, saying he “learned an important lesson” about his own behavior around women, but said he intended to remain in office.
“I now understand that I acted in a way that made people feel uncomfortable,” Cuomo said. “It was unintentional and I truly and deeply apologize for it.”
Cuomo vowed to “fully cooperate” with the state attorney general’s investigation into the allegations.
