Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., on Sunday called out President Joe Biden for failing to provide leadership in the effort to pass an infrastructure bill that would create jobs and stimulate the economy.
In an interview on Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures,” Paul lamented that Biden hasn’t come through on his election pledge to unite the country.
“Just a couple months ago we were hearing from President Biden, the newly inaugurated President Biden, that he was going to unify the country and then we were going to work together and have bipartisanship,” he said. “I’m still waiting, Mr. President. I haven’t seen any of that. I think what I’ve seen so far is it’s Biden’s way or the highway.”
Paul added he also doesn’t “see anything that looks like they want to work together.”
“There are those of us who are saying we could be for some bipartisan infrastructure bill if it had to do with real infrastructure like roads and bridges and if it was paid for,” he said. “But so far I don’t see any of that coming from Biden. I predict they’re going to ram through something with only Democrat votes and no Republican participation again to a tune of a couple trillion dollars.”
Paul also warned against raising the corporate tax rate as part of the infrastructure plan.
“We’ll have more jobs go overseas, more corporations going overseas,” he predicted if the corporate tax was raised, undoing the tax cut law pushed by former President Donald Trump.
“More troubling is rising the capital gains tax. There’s a risk that you’ll see a significant market reaction to this. The other thing is, we’re printing up so much money that there’s going to be real inflation and I think there’s going to be a day in which people wake up and say ‘oh, my goodness, what have we done to our country’.”
According to Paul, Biden and Democrats also owe an apology for “misrepresenting” Georgia’s new election law.
“Democrats… need to apologize for their history and foisting Jim Crow on the country and they need to read the bill in Georgia and realize it has nothing to do with voting,” he charged.
Biden “should apologize for mischaracterizing and lying about the bill,” he added.
Paul derided Major League Baseball’s reaction to the Georgia bill as well, pulling the All-Star Game from the state this year — and warned some fans will “push back.”
“Half the country is Republicans and we’re not very happy with them right now,” he said. “If they don’t want Republicans at the baseball games, don’t want us to tune into their baseball games on television, keep behaving this way. This is terrible…. People like me who love baseball don’t like being cast as a racist by Major League Baseball. Don’t like Delta and Coca-Cola calling us that. We’re going to push back.”
