The U.S. is experiencing a cultural revolution reminiscent of China under Mao Zedong, according to Rep. Devin Nunes, R-Calif., on Newsmax TV.
Nunes appeared on Tuesday’s “Stinchfield” and said the current cancel culture attacking conservative content reminded him of what happened under Chairman Mao, who oversaw the burning and banning of books identified as anti-Communist.
“It appears we’re only at the beginning, I’m not sure how much worse it’s going to get,” Nunes told host Grant Stinchfield. “But we have to do what we can as conservatives to get this message out and reach and many people as possible.”
Nunes, ranking member on the House Intelligence Committee, said it was good news that just less than half of the country’s citizens pay little attention to the Washington D.C. Democrat “freak show” or the mainstream media pundits.
He added there was a caveat, however.
“The challenge though is to reach those 20 percent that are in the middle, the people that just want to live their lives,” Nunes said. “They don’t like politics, they don’t want to watch cable shows, they don’t want to get on social media and listen to politicians.
“The problem is those people, when they do pay attention for just that one moment, they’re getting poison given to them on their social media devices or on their hand-held devices.”
Nunes was asked about the letter Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, sent to House Judiciary Committee Chairman Rep. Jerry Nadler, D-N.Y. Jordan asked for an investigation into the cancel culture’s attack on conservative social media content, and on companies providing a platform to right-wing news programming.
“Unfortunately, we don’t have subpoena power here in the House,” Nunes said. “Jim Jordan has been a warrior on this. He spoke about it at [Conservative Political Action Conference] this weekend and he’s been calling on this for several years now.
“The challenge is, can we get someone to come and testify so we can expose this fraud? And that’s really been the challenge.”
