Rep. Pat Fallon, R-Texas, says Democrats should call the $1.9 trillion COVID relief bill what it really is, a “progressive wish list” they expect to help prop them up in the 2022 midterm election.
“In it, the $1.9 trillion, 91 percent of it has nothing to do with COVID relief at all,” Fallon said Monday during an appearance on Newsmax TV’s “Chris Salcedo Show.”
“There’s $510 billion on state and local government bailouts, mostly for the blue states, $12 billion on foreign aid, $135 million for the national endowment of arts, the same number, $135 million, for the national endowment of humanities, $50 million for Planned Parenthood and $1.1 trillion of this isn’t even going to be spent until next year and, interestingly enough, the economy is going to be at pre-COVID levels by this summer.
“What we need to do is open up the economy and let the American engine roar and get people back to their daily lives. So that $1.1 trillion being spent in 2022, I believe, strongly, is for them to artificially prop up the economy so they’ll do better in the midterms come November.”
The Senate on Saturday passed President Joe Biden’s COVID-19 relief plan in a party-line vote after an all-night session that was delayed repeatedly as the GOP majority tried to push through around three dozen amendments.
Biden said he hoped for quick passage of the revised bill by the House of Representatives so he could sign it and start sending $1,400 direct payments to Americans.
