President Joe Biden’s first address to a joint session of Congress will be “boring but radical,” Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, predicted Wednesday.
“You will see a quiet ‘Uncle Joe’ speaking,” Cruz said on Fox News’ “Fox and Friends,” explaining that, in his opinion, the White House has chosen for Biden to be as “boring as possible” a president in order to draw a contrast between him and the constant pressure of former President Donald Trump.
“After 4 years of every day, the president driving the news, it is smart politics for the Biden White House for people to wake up and not ask themselves ‘what did the president tweet last night,” Cruz said.
Still, the president’s agenda is radical because it is neither a moderate or unity agenda, said Cruz, who will be one of a handful of lawmakers able to attend Biden’s Wednesday night speech, which has a limited audience allowed under COVID-19 precautions.
Biden has “handed over” the Democratic Party to the likes of Sens. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., and Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., and to Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., Cruz continued, and that means “we’ve seen the most radical policies implemented.”
“We’ve seen the Keystone Pipeline shut down, tens of thousands of jobs destroyed at the stroke of a pen, trillions of dollars of spending,” Cruz said. “Joe Biden is spending trillions of dollars more in additional taxes. If you are an American, working, your taxes are going up, raising corporate taxes, individual taxes, death tax, capital gains tax, he has written taxes on everything.”
Biden’s “front and center” agenda, he added, is to “attack the Supreme Court and add 4 radical leftists to take away free speech rights, the religious liberty rights, and Second Amendment rights.”
Meanwhile, Biden’s plans to raise taxes will end up affecting the middle class, despite his assurances that they will only affect the nation’s wealthiest, Cruz said.
“There’s a simple cause and effect,” he said. “If you want jobs, lower taxes and the regulations. If you look through history when the federal government cuts taxes and reduces regulation you see more and more jobs and we see wages going up.”
He also pointed to the current census results that show states losing population.
“Every one of them has high tax, high regulations,” he said. “There’s only one state in the union getting two new members of Congress, the state of Texas because in Texas that is where the jobs are. In the first year of Donald Trump’s administration, we passed the biggest tax cut in modern times and it produced an economic boom so that by 2019, we had the lowest unemployment in 50 years.”
Cruz also noted Texas has had the lowest unemployment rates among Blacks and Hispanics, and said the state’s success has been “incredible.”
“We’ve gone through a global pandemic,” Cruz said. “Millions lost their jobs and what the radical left, it is not President Biden but socialists like Bernie and AOC laying out the agenda, they want massive new taxes, new regulation. That is going to kill jobs, drive down wages, put your kids and grandkids deeper in debt. I hope nobody tells the Democrats what comes after $1 trillion.”
Cruz insisted Republicans will retake the House in 2022, because of the “natural pendulum” that occurs in midterm elections, when the public often votes against the party whose president is in office.
“In this instance, Joe Biden is going so far to the radical left and I think we will move back toward sanity in 2022,” Cruz said. “It will be a very good election and 2024 will be a very good election.”
