Sen. Mitt Romney, R-Utah, said Monday he had been hospitalized and received stitches following a fall in Boston during the weekend.
The 2012 Republican presidential nominee told reporters at the Capitol he “had a tough weekend” in which he was admitted to the hospital. He received “a lot of stitches” through his eyebrow and lip, per The Hill.
“I took a fall,” said Romney, who had been visiting family in Massachusetts. “I took a fall, knocked me unconscious, but I’m doing better.”
Asked how many stitches he received Romney said, “I asked the doctor how many stitches and she said, ‘I don’t know,’ but it’s all through my eyebrow and my lip,” per the New York Post.
The senator, a target of former President Donald Trump, initially joked his injuries were a result of attending the Conservative Political Action Conference in Orlando, Fla..
Romney was the only GOP senator to vote to convict during Trump’s first impeachment trial early last year. He then joined six other Republican senators in voting to convict the then-president during the second impeachment trial last month for inciting the Jan. 6 riot at the Capitol.
Trump singled out Romney and the six other senators who voted to convict during his CPAC speech on Sunday.
