Sen. Ron Johnson said Sunday he’s “highly concerned” about the ability of President Joe Biden’s administration to handle the threats China poses and said a leaked document that revealed the nation’s malevolent intent for weaponizing coronaviruses should not shock anyone.
“When you see the militarization of the South China Sea islands, their malign actions around the globe, we should have been concerned,” the Wisconsin Republican said on Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures with Maria Bartiromo.”
It also “boggles” the mind that Dr. Anthony Fauci, in his role as head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, “continued to research and cooperate” with the Wuhan Institute of Virology that was studying coronaviruses.
“He had to know full well that the Wuhan lab, any organization in China is connected to the Communist Party of China, as well as the People’s Liberation Army,” said Johnson. “What were we doing, cooperating with China? These are some serious questions and we need some answers, but again, I’ve been trying to get answers out of federal agencies for years and I’m not holding my breath.”
Meanwhile, the news that continues to surface about President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter, and his connections with China are concerning but still pointed out that that was one of the reasons Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, issued a report before the election so the American people can understand the “entanglements” between the Bidens and China, and how that could affect foreign policy.
“We’ve written and trying to get information out of agencies but the media completely dismissed our report and said there was nothing in there,” said Johnson. “There was information in there. That’s part of the problem. We do not have unbiased media. We don’t have journalists anymore. For the most part, we have advocates and extreme left-wing of the American political spectrum and hurting the country, it’s very dangerous.”
Johnson said he is still working on an opinion piece about the COVID-19 vaccines and how he does not think they should be forced on Americans.
Further, he insisted that as the vaccines remain under an emergency use authorization from the Food and Drug Administration, they have not yet been fully approved and people must be informed about the decisions they are making.
“I’ve been tested for antibodies against COVID-19,” the senator said. “I tested positive twice within 3 days to confirm the fact that I had COVID, although I was completely asymptomatic. There is growing concern that people who get vaccinated, (after having) been previously and particularly recently infected, there may be dangers.”
Johnson pointed out he was a “huge supporter” of the Trump administration’s “Operation Warp Speed” but still, “we need to make sure we are fully investigating what is happening here and recognizing that this is not a fully approved vaccine.”
He also criticized Biden for agreeing to release patents on the COVID vaccines, and accused him of using the pandemic to “gain the presidency.”
“He completely can’t admit that the reason we have the vaccines is because of what President Trump and Secretary (Alex) Azar did,” said Johnson. “I celebrate the triumph but at the same time, I urge caution from indiscriminate vaccination of everybody and pressuring people to take a vaccine if they don’t want to do so. I was a champion of the right to try, but I’m a champion of the right to choose.”
