Former President Donald Trump issued a statement on Friday lauding Georgia political leaders for changes to voter rules after “the travesty of the 2020 presidential election.”

In a brief comment released via his “Save America” group, Trump had this to say about the reforms signed into law by Gov. Brian Kemp on Thursday:

:Congratulations to Georgia and the Georgia State Legislature on changing their voter Rules and Regulations. They learned from the travesty of the 2020 Presidential Election, which can never be allowed to happen again. Too bad these changes could not have been done sooner!”

Trump has contended, and continues to insist, that the 2020 election results giving Joe Biden the White House were inaccurate and unfair, subject to voting manipulations and other systemic fraud.

Among the new rules in Georgia, the state aims to require a photo ID in order to vote absentee by mail; the rules also set an earlier deadline to request an absentee ballot, limiting where ballot drop boxes can be placed and when they can be accessed.

President Joe Biden issued a statement deriding Georgia’s changes and GOP efforts to change election rules in states across the country as a form of “Jim Crow in the 21st century.”
