Former U.S. Women’s Soccer goalie Hope Solo posted a message on Twitter about how “life can be tough.” The post followed reports about her being arrested and charged with DWI (driving while impaired), misdemeanor child abuse, and more.
“For those who have reached out showing love and support, thank you,” the 40-year-old former soccer player tweeted.
“Our family is strong and surrounded with love,” the message added. “Our kids are strong, intelligent, happy and vibrant, and we are present every day giving them the best life possible. We will be able to share the facts in due time.”
“In the meantime, our kids are enjoying the NC sun, eating popsicles and playing on our property,” Solo continued. “Life can be tough, but these are truly the moments that matter. I feel blessed to have this kind of love in my life.”

Former United States Women’s Soccer goalie Hope Solo was reportedly arrested for DWI (Driving While Impaired) on Thursday, according to TMZ.
Solo was also reportedly booked with resisting arrest and misdemeanor child abuse. TMZ reported that Solo was arrested in a Walmart parking lot in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and two children were present in the vehicle at the time of her arrest.
According to the Associated Press, “a passerby noticed Solo passed out behind the steering wheel for more than an hour with the vehicle’s engine running and the two children in the backseat. A responding officer could smell alcohol, and the warrant said that Solo refused a field sobriety test and her blood was drawn instead.”
On Friday, a statement was posted on Solo’s social media from her legal counsel, Rich Nichols, that said: “the story is more sympathetic than the initial charges suggest.”
“On the advice of counsel, Hope can’t speak about this situation, but she wants everyone to know that her kids are her life, that she was released immediately and is now at home with her family, that the story is more sympathetic than the initial charges suggest, and that she looks forward to her opportunity to defend these charges,” the statement read.
The two-time Olympic gold medalist had a run-in with the law back in 2014 when she was charged with two counts of misdemeanor assault. After a lengthy appeals process, the charges were finally dropped in 2018.
Solo played for USWNT from 2000-to 2016. She was also the goalie on the World Cup team in 2015.
“I’ve played with Hope for a very long time,” USWNT teammate Alex Morgan said during the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup. “She is one of the best goalkeepers in the world if not the best goalkeeper in the world. She’s proved herself in the last tournament [in 2011] and this tournament.”
