Danuel House Jr. scored 18 points off the bench and served as the spark plug as the Houston Rockets snapped a 15-game losing streak with a 118-113 win over the visiting Chicago Bulls on Wednesday.
House nailed a 3-pointer with 2:23 left to stall what was a 14-3 Bulls run to within a three-point deficit. House added a pair of critical free throws after Garrison Mathews sank a corner 3 out of a Chicago defensive trap that lifted the Rockets to a 114-108 lead with 25.5 seconds remaining.
House and Mathews (12 points) both scored in double digits off the bench. The Rockets received 59 bench points while four starters also scored in double figures, paced by Christian Wood, who paired 16 points with 10 rebounds. His sixth and final assist set up the Mathews 3.
Zach LaVine paced the Bulls with 28 points while Lonzo Ball scored 17 of his 19 points in the first half. DeMar DeRozan added 17 points, Nikola Vucevic had 14 points and 13 rebounds, and Alex Caruso scored 13 of his 15 points in the fourth quarter, including two late 3s to fuel the rally.
Lakers 124, Pacers 116
LeBron James scored seven of his season-high 39 points in overtime, and Los Angeles closed its five-game road swing with a defeat of Indiana in Indianapolis.
Los Angeles controlled the extra period, holding the Pacers to just four points. James, who missed the would-be game-winner at the end of regulation, connected on a step-back 3-pointer and fadeaway jumper in the waning moments to keep Indiana’s rally efforts at bay. Russell Westbrook scored 20 points, grabbed seven rebounds and dished five assists in the win, which came without Anthony Davis, who missed Wednesday’s game due to a non-COVID illness.
Malcolm Brogdon scored 28 points, leading the way among seven Pacers scoring in double-figures. Justin Holiday hit four 3-pointers en route to 16 points, T.J. McConnell and Caris LeVert each scored 10 points, Myles Turner added 12 points and Domantas Sabonis recorded his 14th double-double of the season with 14 points and 12 rebounds.
Kings 125, Trail Blazers 121
Buddy Hield made five 3-pointers and scored 22 points off the bench to help Sacramento notch a victory over visiting Portland.
De’Aaron Fox scored 19 of his 21 points in the first half for Sacramento but drew two technical fouls and was ejected for arguing with 6:06 left in the game. The Kings also lost Harrison Barnes, who had 13 points before missing the final quarter due to a right foot injury.
Damian Lillard recorded 32 points and 10 assists for Portland, which fell to 1-8 on the road. Jusuf Nurkic scored a season-best 28 points and matched his season high of 17 rebounds and Norman Powell tallied 22 points for the Trail Blazers.
Warriors 116, 76ers 96
Seth Curry scored a team-high 24 points to nearly offset brother Stephen’s game-high 25, but Golden State used greater depth to outlast road-weary Philadelphia for a fifth straight win in San Francisco.
Andrew Wiggins (19 points), Jordan Poole (17), Juan Toscano-Anderson (13), Otto Porter Jr. (12) and Draymond Green (10) also scored in double figures for the Warriors, who rallied from 19 down to record their ninth home win in a row. All nine of the victories in the home streak have been by 12 or more points.
Tyrese Maxey (19) and Danny Green (10) were the only other 76ers to reach double figures on the final night of a long road trip without star big man Joel Embiid (health and safety protocols).
Nets 123, Celtics 104
Patty Mills scored 23 points, Kevin Durant added 21 points and eight assists and Brooklyn routed host Boston as James Harden totaled 20 points, 11 assists and seven rebounds for the Nets, who have won four straight and seven of their past eight games.
Durant’s first basket, on a pull-up jumper at 10:05 of the opening quarter, moved him past Allen Iverson (24,368 points) into 25th place on the NBA’s all-time scoring list. Durant finished the night with 24,388 points.
Marcus Smart finished with 20 points and eight assists to pace the Celtics. Boston’s leading scorer, Jayson Tatum, made just 4 of 16 shots to wind up with 15 points, and Dennis Schroder had just 10 points on 3-of-10 shooting.
Bucks 114, Pistons 93
Jrue Holiday slammed home a Giannis Antetokounmpo assist 16 seconds into the game to ignite a 14-0 flurry by host Milwaukee, which never looked back in a wire-to-wire victory.
Antetokounmpo finished with a game-high 33 points, Bobby Portis recorded a 28-point, 10-rebound double-double and Holiday pitched in with 22 points for the Bucks, who completed a 5-0 homestand with their 12th consecutive win over the Pistons.
Trey Lyles had a team-high 19 points off the bench for Detroit, which was playing on the second night of a back-to-back and suffered its fourth straight defeat.
Timberwolves 113, Heat 101
Anthony Edwards had 33 points and a career-high 14 rebounds as host Minnesota won its fifth straight game.
Malik Beasley made five 3-pointers and scored a season-high 29 points for Minnesota, which has won five in a row for the first time since 2018. D’Angelo Russell scored 20 points and Jarred Vanderbilt had eight points and grabbed a season-high 15 rebounds.
Bam Adebayo scored 18 points for Miami while Jimmy Butler recorded 16 points and eight rebounds against his former team. Duncan Robinson scored 17 points, Tyler Herro had 16 and Gabe Vincent 14.
Jazz 110, Thunder 104
Donovan Mitchell scored 13 points, including a trio of buckets in the final minute, to lift visiting Utah.
Jordan Clarkson led the Jazz with 20 points off the bench while Bojan Bogdanovic added 19 points and Rudy Gobert had 15 points and 17 rebounds.
The win was the fourth in five games for the Jazz, while the Thunder have lost four consecutive games and six of seven.
Raptors 126, Grizzlies 113
Gary Trent Jr. scored 17 of his 26 points in the fourth quarter as visiting Toronto defeated Memphis.
Precious Achiuwa scored all of his 17 of his in the third quarter to lead a comeback that raised the Raptors’ record to 2-3 on their current six-game road trip.
Fred VanVleet added 23 points for the Raptors, and Scottie Barnes and Pascal Siakam contributed 17 points apiece.
Pelicans 127, Wizards 102
Brandon Ingram broke out of a shooting slump to score 26 points and Jonas Valanciunas had a double-double as host New Orleans routed Washington.
Valanciunas finished with 21 points and 11 rebounds, Josh Hart scored 16, Willy Hernangomez had 13, Nickeil Alexander-Walker scored 12 and Devonte’ Graham returned from a three-game absence due to a foot injury to add 12 as the Pelicans had a season-high point total and won for just the fourth time this season.
Bradley Beal scored 23 points, Raul Neto had 13, Spencer Dinwiddie added 11 and Montrezl Harrell 10 to lead the Wizards, who lost for the fourth time in five games after a five-game winning streak.
Hawks 124, Spurs 106
Trae Young scored 31 points and dished out 11 assists and keyed an early third-quarter run that broke open the game as visiting Atlanta steamrolled San Antonio to win its sixth straight contest.
Bogdan Bogdanovic added 18 points for the Hawks, with John Collins scoring 15, Lou Williams and Cam Reddish hitting for 12 apiece, Clint Capela tallying 11 points and taking 13 rebounds, and Kevin Huerter and Danilo Gallinari scoring 10 points each.
Bryn Forbes led the Spurs with 23 points while Dejounte Murray added 22 points, 11 assists and eight rebounds, and Jakob Poeltl and Keldon Johnson scored 15 points each. Poeltl also grabbed 10 rebounds for San Antonio, which has lost six straight games and is off to its worst start since the 1996-97 season
Hornets 106, Magic 99
Terry Rozier scored 27 points and Kelly Oubre Jr. contributed 21 points off the bench as visiting Charlotte earned its seventh win in eight games.
Miles Bridges contributed 11 points, nine rebounds and six assists as Charlotte improved to 2-0 this season against its Southeast Division rival. P.J. Washington returned to the Charlotte lineup after missing the previous 10 games because of a hyperextended left elbow and had one rebound and no points in six minutes.
Orlando, which debuted its new orange-themed Nike NBA City Edition uniform, lost its fourth consecutive game and fell for the seventh time in eight outings. The Magic also saw their home record fall to 1-7. Mo Bamba had 18 points and 12 rebounds while leading six Orlando scorers in double figures. Jalen Suggs followed with 17 points and Franz Wagner added 16 points for the Magic, who shot 15-for-42 (35.7 percent) from 3-point range.
Suns 120, Cavaliers 115
Devin Booker scored 24 of his 35 points in the first half to propel visiting Phoenix to its 14th straight victory, courtesy of a win over Cleveland.
Booker made 14 of 21 shots from the floor to help the Suns match the third-longest win streak in franchise history. They sit three victories shy of equaling their franchise record, set in the 2006-07 season. Chris Paul recorded 17 points and 12 assists, Deandre Ayton had 16 points and nine rebounds and JaVale McGee added 13 points and 12 boards for Phoenix.
Cleveland’s Jarrett Allen collected 25 points and 11 rebounds to record his second straight double-double and seventh in nine games. Cedi Osman had 23 points, Darius Garland contributed 19 points and seven assists and Ricky Rubio added 15 points for the Cavaliers, whose skid reached a season-high five games.
