A Republican congressman proposed a bill that would put a hold on immigration for at least a decade. On Friday, Arizona Rep. Paul Gosar (R) announced his sponsorship of the bill and said a moratorium needed to stem illegal immigration.

Gosar went on to call illegal immigration a “threat to national security” and accused Joe Biden of ignoring federal laws and letting criminals in.

This comes after Biden reversed many policies put in place by President Trump, which some analysts said has fueled the border crisis. Many Republican lawmakers have called on the Biden administration to tighten the reins on border security, while some state governors have deployed National Guard troops and law enforcement to assist Custom and Border Patrol agents with the migrant crisis at the border.

The Biden administration has continued to dodge responsibility for the influx in illegal immigration. Biden announced a “comprehensive regional framework” to address the root causes of migration, while many Americans have expressed disapproval of this so-called approach.

According to federal immigration officials, 188,000 illegal aliens were apprehended in June.
