Chicago has seen yet another violent weekend with 47 people shot, including a 7-year-old girl who died. Police reported Serenity Broughton was shot along with her 6-year-old sister Aubrey while sitting in a parked car.

Aubrey was wounded and has remained in stable condition, while Serenity was taken to a hospital where she was later pronounced dead.

“This is too big of a weight for a child. This senseless violence has to stop, it’s not right,” the victims’ grandmother Regina Broughton expressed. “She was a beautiful light and just taken.”

Police said they did not believe the girls were the intended targets, but may or may not have been caught in crossfire. A suspect has not yet been identified and a $2,000 dollar reward has been offered to anyone with information leading to an arrest and conviction.
