Friends and family are mourning the death of former Denver Broncos wide receiver Demaryius Thomas. He was found dead in his Georgia home on Thursday.
Several of his teammates have expressed their shock on social media. The team’s wide receiver coach said he was heartbroken and blessed to have known Thomas. Additionally, retired quarterback Peyton Manning called Thomas one of the best he has ever played with.
Earlier this year, Thomas announced his official retirement from the NFL. He spent nine seasons with the team and finished his career as the second leading receiver.
Preliminary reports, according to police, suggested Thomas’ death may have been a result of a medical issue.
“He had been suffering from seizures for over a year, and we believe he had a seizure when he was showering,” said Latonya Bonseigneur, a first cousin of Thomas. “We’re not sure when he died. We just spoke with him yesterday.”
The Broncos released a statement on Twitter regarding the loss. Thomas was 33-years-old.
We are devastated and completely heartbroken.
