California gubernatorial candidate Caitlyn Jenner recently said she didn’t vote in the 2020 November election — but records show she did.

Jenner told CNN she went golfing instead of voting last Election Day because she “couldn’t get excited” about the dozen measures on the California ballot.

Although Jenner did not vote in nearly two-thirds of the elections in which she was eligible since 2000, a representative of the Los Angeles County registrar’s office sported documentation to confirm Jenner voted this past November, according to Politico.

In an interview that aired Tuesday morning, Jenner was asked if she voted for former President Donald Trump in last year’s election.

Although she broke with the former president in 2018 over his positions on transgender issues, Jenner has been relying on former Trump aides for campaign strategy.

“I didn’t even vote,” Jenner said during a wide-ranging interview at her home in Malibu. “Out here in California, it’s like, why vote for a Republican president? It’s just not going to work. I mean, it’s overwhelming.”

Jenner then was asked if she voted on other races.

“It was voting day, and I thought, the only thing out here in California that I worry about, which affects people, is the propositions that were out there,” Jenner said. “And I didn’t see any propositions that I really had one side or the other. And so it was Election Day. And I just couldn’t get excited about it. And I just wound up going to play golf and I said, eh, I’m not doing that.”

The election in California included 12 ballot measures — i.e. proposals affecting the future of such things as cash bail, affirmative action, gig workers, rent control, and criminal sentencing — during a campaign that set records for overall spending.

Politico said Jenner’s campaign would comment only on background, when asked about the conflicting account.

A spokesperson said Jenner voted on “some local issues,” and added the candidate was responding to a question about whom she chose for president in 2020.

Among Malibu issues on the ballot were a City Council race and a hotel tax increase measure. Los Angeles County had a competitive district attorney’s race and a measure to send more county funds to social services.

Jenner saying she didn’t vote appeared strange for someone running for governor in the recall election of Gov. Gavin Newsom, D-Calif.

Some political insiders speculated Jenner might have wanted to distance herself from Trump on CNN, or perhaps couldn’t remember the years she actually voted.

GOP strategist Tim Rosales said he has heard many candidates claim they voted only to be found out they did not because voting records are public.

“But I’ve never heard it the opposite way, where somebody said that I didn’t vote” and they actually did, he said.

“I can imagine, having been on the inside of these types of high-profile campaigns, you’ve got a lot of people scrambling right now.”

A new poll from the Berkeley Institute of Governmental Studies showed registered California voters oppose the recall by 49-35.

Among Republican candidates favored if the recall succeeds, Jenner (6%) trails former San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer (22%), former 2018 Republican gubernatorial candidate John Cox (22%), and former Rep. Doug Ose, R-Calif., (14%).
