A county supervisor in Southern California said the Biden administration is taking advantage of the region’s compassion for illegal immigrants.

On Wednesday, Jim Desmond asserted that Joe Biden is putting the health of San Diego residents at risk by refusing to test most illegal immigrants who enter the U.S. for COVID-19. He said while his heart breaks for asylum seekers, the health of the region should also be considered as it attempts to safely reopen.

This comes amid at least 1,400 minors being housed at a detention facility in the county. Immigration attorney Esther Clayton also weighed in by saying officials are not being transparent about the health of those minors. The attorney added, $200 million in Health and Human Service funds meant for COVID-19 were allocated to house unaccompanied minors.

Also in his statement, Desmond said it does not appear this will change anytime soon.
