Talk show host Ellen DeGeneres will end her talk show after 19 years, The Hollywood Reporter said Wednesday.
DeGeneres, told her staff the news Tuesday, and is scheduled to discuss the news on her show Thursday with guest Oprah Winfrey.
“When you’re a creative person, you constantly need to be challenged – and as great as this show is, and as fun as it is, it’s just not a challenge anymore,” The Hollywood Reporter quoted DeGeneres as saying.
DeGeneres’ contract ends in 2022, Variety reports, adding that there were rumors when she extended her contract in 2019 that she had been planning to end the series at that time.
“The Ellen DeGeneres Show” debuted in 2003 and has won more than 60 Emmy awards.
Last year, three top producers exited the show and DeGeneres apologized after reports of a toxic work environment, promising “a new chapter.”
