Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-Fla.) is offering $5,ooo to any out-of-state law enforcement officers joining police departments in Florida for the first time.

In a recent interview, DeSantis stated that the Sunshine State is welcoming unvaccinated police officers to the state as several other states across the nation have imposed COVID vaccine mandates. He went on to tell out-of-state officers, “NYPD, Minneapolis, Seattle, if you’re not being treated well, we’ll treat you better here.”

“We are looking to capitalize off a lot of communities across our county who have turned their back on law enforcement, who aren’t providing them the support,” said DeSantis.

The Republican governor initially proposed the idea back in May, but has recently ramped up efforts now that more and more police have been either fired or have resigned due to the mandates.

This comes after DeSantis called for a special legislative session last week to add more “protections” for Floridians from federal vaccine mandates.
