Joe Biden signed a highway funding extension into law on Saturday after it was unanimously approved by the Senate. The measure was previously approved by the House on Friday.
“HR 5434, an act to provide extension of federal aid highway, highway safety and transit programs, and for other purposes.”
The move prevents around 3,700 workers from being furloughed for the next 30 days. Funding for highway construction programs had initially been incorporated into the $1.2 trillion infrastructure package. However, a vote on the package was delayed by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.).

Meanwhile, Pelosi set the infrastructure bill deadline for October 31. The delay for the House to vote on the infrastructure bill has frustrated many moderate Democrats who hope to get the legislation passed on its own this week.
Although Pelosi vowed to get the bill passed this week, she said she believed the extension would help get both of the spending bill approved.
