Some House Republicans have signaled they want to impeach Joe Biden’s Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) nominee before he’s even been confirmed.

According to an impeachment resolution, David Chipman has failed to support and defend the Second Amendment, having previously worked for major gun control groups while also pushing anti-gun rhetoric. The resolution also claims Chipman lied to Congress when he allegedly denied losing his service weapon as an ATF agent.

Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) called Chipman “unusually divisive” and claimed he’s “made statements that demean law-abiding gun owners.” Meanwhile, at least five moderate Democrats remain undecided on Chipman and the party did not respond when asked about when his final confirmation would be.
