Human Rights Watch has criticized the International Olympic Committee for kneeling to communist China. The organization called committee President Thomas Bach “shameful” for his recent video call with Chinese tennis player Peng Shuai.

It was Peng’s first appearance since mysteriously disappearing after accusing a high ranking Communist Party official of sexual assault. Political science professor Jules Boykoff accused Bach of participating in Chinese propaganda.

“Instead, he appears to have shoved the key issue of serious claims of sexual abuse off to the side while simultaneously making his goal very clear, which was to create a flimsy cover story for Chinese authorities so that the games could go on,” she stated.

Beijing is currently slated to host the 2022 Winter Olympic games.
