Students and staff members at a Kentucky high school walked out of campus after being forced to wear masks. On Friday, both teachers and students at Hickman County High School launched a protest against the school board’s decision to mandate face coverings.
This comes as the Kentucky Board of Education passed a 270-day emergency mask regulation for public schools statewide. Reports said students at Hickman High School were asked to either wear a mask or leave, with many choosing to leave.
“He [the superintendent] never did say he would send our children home. I would not have sent my kids to school today knowing that,” said Kory Narnjo, parent of a student who attends Hickman. “Our kids came to school. If they didn’t have a mask, they sent them home.”
Tensions rose following an announcement by the superintendent this week, where he told parents that students and staff wouldn’t face repercussions for not wearing masks.
