Women’s March founder and Bernie Sander’s campaign surrogate Linda Sarsour received condemnation for retweeting an offensive message, which she later deleted. The Monday tweet implied the Israeli Defense Force is good at blowing up buildings with people in them, so they shouldn’t be helping to find people trapped under the rubble of the Surfside condo collapse in Florida.
A recovery team with the IDF joined emergency crews in Surfside on June 27 in order to help with rescue efforts. Israel’s former UN Rep. Danny Danon responded to Sarsour’s tweet stating, “do not expect those who worship violence and death to understand those who value life. The IDF, Israel’s army, the most moral army in the world, will always stand by our allies in times of need.”

The retweet caused swift backlash, particularly from pro-Israel groups. Michael Dickson, the head of one such group, called the tweet evil and heartless.
Sarsour announced a break from Twitter following the backlash, blaming those criticizing her and calling them complicit in atrocities and injustice.
