DHS Secretary Alejandro Majorkas attempted to defend the Biden administration’s handling of the southern border crisis. In a press conference on Friday, Majorkas said the department was considering ending mounted horseback patrol units amid backlash over their treatment of Haitian migrants.
Addressing the thousands of migrants camped out at the Del Rio border crossing over the past week, Mayorkas said no Haitian migrants remained at the Del Rio border crossing after about 15,000 camped out under a bridge earlier this week.
“Less than one week ago, there were approximately 15,000 migrants in Del Rio, Texas, the great majority of whom were Haitian nationals,” he stated. “As of this morning, there are no longer any migrants in the camp underneath the Del Rio International Bridge.”

Mayorkas also confirmed none of the migrants being let into the country have been tested for COVID-19. He added the White House was working with South and Central American countries to see if they would take in more Haitians.
