House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) called for Republicans, Democrats and Independents to solely focus on getting people out of Afghanistan. During a press conference on Tuesday, McCarthy’s concern centered around keeping troops in Afghanistan until all Americans were evacuated.

The Republican lawmaker criticized Democrats for not being more involved in helping solve the crisis.

“As I watch other countries and our allies across this world bring their bodies back together of government to work on how to bring their citizens home, the Democrats bring us back to spend trillions of dollars,” he explained. “…They spend their time on phones trying to twist arms to get people to vote, whereas they should drop that. Our entire focus, Republican, Democrat, independent alike, should be nothing else than bringing our Americans home.”

This comes as Joe Biden has reportedly said he’s planning on keeping the August 31 deadline due to potential threats from the Taliban.
