Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo slammed Joe Biden for his messy withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan. On Friday, Pompeo spoke with the Hugh Hewitt Show and said Biden’s pullout from Afghanistan was an “abysmal failure.”

Pompeo went on to say the U.S. has most likely lost two decades worth of work because of the way Biden handled the pullout. He added, “it was anything but orderly and safe.”

“Now we’ve gone backwards. We’ve probably lost two decades as a result of the way President Biden conducted this withdrawal,” he stated. “The tactics and the operational level execution of this have been horrific and will have enormous consequences in the years ahead.”

Pompeo said under the Trump administration, the Taliban didn’t act the way they have been in recent days.

“We shut them largely down. They didn’t go take provincial capitals in large measure. They didn’t go violate some of the most fundamental things that put Americans at risk. We didn’t have a single American killed either,” he explained. “…Not because of a piece of paper, but because the understandings were there and we made clear we would enforce them.”

He added the region was stable before Biden decided to change it and botched the withdrawal.

“We had stability at the 2,500 person level.” he expressed. “This administration came in, much like they at our southern border. They said, ‘Trump did that, we’re going to go rip it up.’”

Pompeo warned Biden’s handling of the situation would result in “significant ramifications for America’s national security for a long time.”
