A Black high school student in Missouri admitted to writing a racist graffiti message on the walls of several bathrooms. The student at Parkway Central High School confessed earlier this week that he wrote racial slurs in several bathrooms of the school.
Over 1,000 students staged a walk out in response to the graffiti, cursing and shouting at school administrators. The students claimed this isn’t the first time something of this nature has happened.
“As a Black man myself, I find it just very discriminating,” said one student. “I don’t know why anyone would do that. I don’t know what they would have against us.”
A group of students at Parkway Central sent out a statement on Wednesday in response to the graffiti. “High school students in Parkway have been fighting for racial discrimination policy and tangible changes for years, but have gone unheard as racist incidents continue to happen with little to no repercussions for the perpetrators. Yet again here occurs another racist attack in the halls of Parkway Schools,” read the statement.
The school has since issued their own statement recognizing the hurt the graffiti caused, but acknowledged they don’t know the student’s motivation. The superintendent said the student is now facing severe disciplinary actions and referral to law enforcement for further investigations.
