A pair of New York Police officers and several bystanders have been hailed heroes after they saved a mother and her child, who were hit by an alleged drunk driver. The woman and her 6-month-old child were crossing a street in Yonkers last week when an out of control car flew around a corner.
The speeding vehicle hit a parked car before it plowed into the mother and her child and crashed into a barbershop. Two police officers, who were having breakfast nearby, and several witnesses quickly jumped in to help free the mother and lift the car off the baby.
“Somebody’s gotta pull the baby. Grab the baby,” one officer on the scene said. “I got the baby.”
The baby suffered a fractured skull and the mother fractured her leg. Police said the 43-year-old driver did not have a license and was arrested at the scene for allegedly driving while intoxicated.
Police Officers Fusco and Samoyedny embody the spirit of the @YonkersPD — always willing to put others above themselves without hesitation.
Their act of heroism saved the life of a baby girl and her mother. They are #YonkersFinest! https://t.co/ThZRiPg5CU
