Iowa Sen. Joni Ernst (R) called out the Biden administration’s lack of respect for Gold Star families. Ernst blasted the administration on Friday, saying House Democrats have worked to delay the construction of a monument dedicated to the service members who died in the decades-long War on Terror. “We want them to be able to enjoy it with their families right now, today,” stated Ernst.
This comes after 40 Gold Star families wrote a letter to House Natural Resources Chairman Raul Grijalva in June. The letter requested a legislative hearing regarding the Global War on Terrorism Memorial Location Act.

Grijalva failed to respond for more than three months, prompting Ernst to blast the Democrat for disrespecting the families. In addition, the Global War on Terrorism Foundation said they were disappointed with the lack of urgency to give a response.
When Grijalva officially responded he argued, “there are issues we need to resolve to everyone’s satisfaction before finalizing the bill. With those issues in mind, it is important that this committee hold hearings of its own to better understand the merits of the proposal and determine the best path forward.”
President Trump signed the act back in 2017, authorizing the memorial be placed in Washington, D.C., but a specific location was never decided on. However, the bill has yet to move forward in the House or Senate.
