Senate Foreign Relations Committee chairman Robert Menendez (D-N.J.) recently claimed China is abusing Taiwan. In an interview Thursday, the New Jersey lawmaker said China has violated Taiwan’s airspace and is playing dangerous games.
The Democrat senator also warned a miscalculation could result in danger for the entirety of Taiwan. Menendez asserted that Taiwanese fighters are being thrown off by China’s interference. He compared what was happening in Taiwan to what had happened in Hong Kong, saying the country has much at risk.
“This is part of China’s coercive efforts against others who they believe have to be exclusively in their domain,” explained Menendez. “This is why strengthening our relationship with Taiwan is so important.”
Furthermore, Taiwanese officials have said they are not seeking military confrontation, but they are willing to do what it takes to defend their freedom.

Menendez noted, it’s important that the U.S. send a message to China that it will not allow what occurred in Hong Kong to happen to Taiwan. He said for the security of the region, it’s crucial that the U.S. not let Taiwan fall under such circumstances.
