Joe Biden’s controversial pick to lead the Office of Personnel Management has faced pushback from Republicans.

Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) has continued to lead efforts in blocking the nomination of Kiran Ahuja from advancing. During her confirmation hearing, Hawley reportedly raised concerns about Ahuja’s support for abortion.

The senator also pressed her on whether she would push critical race theory in federal directives after her recent endorsement of an article that claimed the election of President Trump in 2016 was an example of white supremacy. It is the same topic Hawley brought up during a hearing in April.

“I have not made any of those type of statements about the election,” Ahuja claimed. “I have been in the philanthropic space for the past few years and so no I can’t speak to that particular position.”

Hawley went on to argue that the director of what is essentially the federal government’s human resources department should strive to unite Americans and not divide them based on race.
