Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, a Republican, on Thursday slammed Democrat President Joe Biden’s first 100 days in office with a social media post marking his first 100 days in office as “Biden’s 100 days of failure.”
In the Facebook post, Abbott listed “Biden’s accomplishments in the first 100 days:”
- #BidenBorderCrisis
- Destroyed thousands of jobs
- Threntened energy industry
- Proposed major tax hikes
- Spread misinformation on GA’s election integrity law
“Americans are paying the price for his failures,” the post reads.
Biden has come under fire from Republicans for reversing former President Donald Trump’s executive actions on border security on his first day in office.
Trump had ordered immigrants seeking asylum in the United States at the U.S.-Mexican border held in Mexico while their claims awaited processing. Since Biden’s reversal of that order, immigration has increased.
Politifact and other fact-checking websites quote experts as saying the the spike is partly seasonal and that even the rise in illegal border crossings of 173% from February 2020 to February 2021 can be attributed to factors other that Biden’s policies.
Still, the rise in unaccompanied minors has forced the United States to house these children and teens in crowed facilities while more and more are being constructed, Republican critics say, all the while exposing them and border security personnel guarding them to COVID-19.
On the issue of jobs, Alfredo Ortiz, President and CEO of Job Creators Network, told Fox News that Biden has been “beholden to his left-wing base,” saying that the president’s first 100 days in office have been “a war on small business.”
“Small businesses are already reeling after a year of government-imposed lockdowns and just finally getting some breathing room thanks to the vaccine,” Ortiz said. “President Biden could be an advocate for small businesses like candidate Biden was but he is beholden to his left-wing base … Republicans in Congress and centrist Democrats must resist this lurch toward socialism.”
“It’s been like rapid fire of bad policy on small businesses,” Job Creators Network, a conservative advocacy group, said. “The policies are costing jobs, raising energy prices, making it harder to find workers and operate their businesses.”
At a time when businesses are working to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic, Biden wants to make it harder for them to keep their doors open and keep workers on the payroll by mandating a $15 minimum wage, the Job Creators Network said.
Republicans have also slammed Biden on energy issues, such as his executive action stopping construction of the Keystone XL pipeline, that the government of Canada and U.S. labor unions supported.
An estimated 11,000 construction jobs building the pipeline were lost, and the economies of local towns were affected, CNN reports.
But the pipeline that would have allowed more heavy crude to flow from Canada to the Gulf of Mexico was also touted as a means of keeping America more energy independent.
Republicans also fear reentering the Paris (Climate Change) Accords will hurt the U.S. coal and gas industry.
Biden also was called out by The Washington Post for repeatedly making false claims about Georgia’s new election law.
Biden has on multiple occasions claimed that Georgia’s new law forces polling places to close at 5 p.m., making it harder for people to vote who work during normal hours.
“Under the new law, counties have the option to extend the voting hours so voters can start casting ballots as early as 7 a.m. and as late as 7 p.m. — the same as Election Day in Georgia,” the Post notes. “Moreover, an additional mandatory day of early voting on Saturday was added and two days of early voting on Sunday were codified as an option for counties.
