Former President Donald Trump is heading to his Bedminster golf club in New Jersey for the summer and will likely headline a $250,000-a-person fundraiser there on May 22, Politico reported this week.
According to the story, Trump will appear in person at the first event held to raise money for the new Make America Great Again Action super PAC headed by longtime ally Corey Lewandowski.
A document filed with the Federal Election Commission on March 3 showed just the formation of the PAC and listed the treasurer as Charles Gantt with a mailing address in Beverly, Massachusetts.
The document states that the committee ”supports/opposes more than one federal candidate” and is not connected to any political party committee.
”This committee intends to make independent expenditures, and consistent with the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit decision in SpeechNow v. FEC, it therefore intends to raise funds in unlimited amounts,” the document said. ”This committee will not use those funds to make contributions, whether direct, in-kind, or via coordinated communications, to federal candidates or committees.”
In February, CBS News reported that one Trump PAC, Save America, raised more than $30 million in the final weeks of 2020.
In addition, Trump had around $11 million left over from his failed presidential campaign bid, and $63 million from his joint committees with the Republican National Committee, CBS reported.
The money is expected to be used to push the former president’s influence in the Republican Party.
On Friday, House Republicans voted in Rep. Elise Stefanik, R-N.Y., as conference chair, the third-highest position in party leadership.
Stefanik, a staunch supporter of Trump, replaced Rep. Liz Cheney, R-Wyo., in that position.
”Congratulations to Elise Stefanik for her Big and Overwhelming victory,” Trump said in a statement after Friday’s vote. ”The House GOP is united and the Make America Great Again movement is Strong!”
Cheney, the daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney, spoke out against Trump and was one of 10 Republicans in the House to vote to impeach the 45th president on charges of inciting the riot at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6..
According to CBS, Trump’s Save America PAC commissioned polling in Wyoming that showed Republicans there have a majority unfavorable view of Cheney.
She is being challenged by at least three other Republicans in the primary election to retain her seat in 2022.
One of those opponents, state Sen. Anthony Bouchard, said in the report that Cheney’s vote to impeach Trump shows “just how out of touch she is with Wyoming.”
Accepting the new position with the House GOP leadership, Stefanik said that President Trump ”is a critical factor” in unifying the party and moving it forward.
During his administration, Trump often split time between New Jersey and his Mar-a-Lago Club in Palm Beach, Florida, favoring the northern club in the summer.
