United Airlines has joined other corporations in speaking out against Georgia’s new voting law, The Hill reports.
“Some have questioned the integrity of the nation’s election systems and are using it to justify stricter voting procedures, even though numerous studies have found zero credible evidence of widespread fraud in U.S. elections,” reads a statement from the Chicago-based airline.
“Legislation that infringes on the right to vote of fellow Americans is wrong,” it continued. “We believe that leaders in both parties should work to protect the rights of eligible voters by making it easier and more convenient for them to cast a ballot and have it counted.”
United did not specifically name Georgia or the new law passed.
Other Republican-led states such as Texas, Florida and Arizona are also considering similar voting legislation.
Texas is currently in the process of passing a new law that would limit early voting hours and broaden the authority of partisan poll watchers.
American Airlines, which is based in Texas, has criticized the proposal, which is backed by Republican Gov. Greg Abbott.
Dallas-based Southwest Airlines said in a statement that “the right to vote is foundational to our democracy,” although it did not oppose the legislation outright.
