The White House has expressed its support for states choosing to return to COVID-19 lockdowns. On Tuesday, Press Secretary Jen Psaki was asked whether the White House would agree with states reinstating coronavirus restrictions if cases continued to rise.
Psaki affirmed Joe Biden’s support for local governments bringing back shutdowns, especially in areas where many people have not yet been vaccinated. Even the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health has called on residents to wear face masks despite their vaccination status.

“Well, states are going to have to make evaluations and local communities are going to have to make evaluations about what’s in their interests. We certainly support their decisions to implement any measures that they think will help their community be safe,” said Psaki.
Her comments come as Biden has struggled with the pandemic, failing to reach his Fourth of July vaccination goal and as the Delta variant has continued to spread across the U.S.
