Former New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio (D) appears to have his eye on the newly-drawn 10th Congressional District, and his former constituents do not seem to be overly impressed with the idea that he could represent them again, this time in Washington, D.C.
According to a Tuesday afternoon report from the New York Post, de Blasio told state Assemblyman Simcha Eichenstein (D-Borough Park) that “he is committed to running in the race.”

“He’s in, he’s running – he’s calling people,” Eichenstein told the Post, adding that he had already lined up donors and was calling a list of other officials to let them know of his decision.
“Based on the conversation that I had with him earlier today, he is running for Congress in the new NY-10 congressional district,” Eichenstein added. “He called me earlier this afternoon. While I will keep our conversation private, I will confirm that we spoke for over 20 minutes about his decision to run for this district.”
To say that The Atlantic’s Molly Jong Fast was unenthusiastic about the prospect of a “Congressman de Blasio” would be an understatement. Her tweet responding to the story read simply, “No no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no.”

Brooklyn Law School adjunct professor David Greenfield noted that while Eichenstein had been ready and willing to leak the news to the Post, he had not taken the obvious opportunity to endorse the former mayor in the race.
