Sorry, kids, you still have to mask up in the name of COVID-19 safety in the nation’s capital while adults can gallivant around the Swamp free of face-covering obstructions.
On Monday, D.C.’s Mayor Muriel Bowser announced that the city’s COVID-19 indoor mask mandate will be “dialed back,” meaning that many — but not all — indoor facilities will no longer have to request their patrons and visitors wear a mask. Among those places still under the mask mandates are schools.
As flagged by Fox News, “The places where people will no longer have to wear masks will be ‘[r]estaurants and bars,’ ‘[s]ports and entertainment venues,’ supermarkets, pharmacies, retail businesses, private offices, D.C. government offices and ‘[h]ouses of worship. But the district will still require masks at ‘schools, childcare facilities and libraries,’ as well as healthcare facilities, jails, and on public transit.”
One reporter asked — essentially —when schools could possibly be included in the list of spaces that are no longer biohazards. To that extent, Bowser was not sure when kids could ditch their masks.
“That’s a good question,” she said. “We continue to work with our school communities over what they think it will take to keep kids safe and in school. We thought that our last group of little ones would have access to the vaccine in February. It turns out it’s going to be sometime later. So I don’t think that we’re going to have a decision about schools sometime soon.”
D.C. is not alone in having one standard for adults and another for children. As The Daily Wire reported earlier, celebrities in Los Angeles were criticized for going maskless while students in the L.A. school district must wear them during class:
Numerous celebrities and Left-wing politicians were out having a lovely time at this year’s Super Bowl in Los Angeles County, and they were notably without masks.
SoFi Stadium, where the Super Bowl was played, has a rule that masks are required indoors and outdoors during events with more than 5,000 people.
Among those partying it up maskless were Charlize Theron, Jennifer Lopez, Ben Affleck, Jay-Z, Ellen DeGeneres, Will Ferrell, Dwayne Johnson, a.k.a “The Rock,” among others.
Social media quickly erupted with criticism, highlighting that schoolchildren in Los Angeles are still required to wear masks at school. Some also pointed out specific celebrities’ personal flip-flop, or hypocrisy on masks.
While Democratic allies like American Federation of Teachers President Randi Weingarten have insisted that kids are “resilient” and don’t mind the masks, video evidence and common sense point to the opposite being true.
Last Friday, The Daily Wire shared the euphoric viral video of school children in Nevada jumping for joy upon being told they no longer have to shield their face all day long:
A video of children in Nevada erupting into cheers after learning that they would no longer have to wear masks went viral on Thursday after the state’s Democrat governor finally ended his mask mandate as backlash continues to build against coronavirus restrictions in Democrat-controlled states.
Courtney Holland, Vice Chair & National Committeewoman for Nevada Young Republicans, posted the now-viral video on online where it was viewed millions of times in a matter of hours.
“Stop what you’re doing and watch this,” she wrote. “Kids at a Las Vegas elementary school burst out into cheers after learning they no longer have to wear a mask to school.”
