ABC’s “The View” is home to some of Democratic activist and Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams’ biggest fans — but even they weren’t buying her excuses for ditching a face mask in photos taken during a recent visit to a Georgia elementary school.
"It was an unforced error of the worst sort … Model the correct behavior," said #TheView's @sunny on Stacey Abrams posing maskless with masked kids. pic.twitter.com/vFzwmLWiHa

“She messed up taking a picture with these kids without a mask, giving aid and comfort to the other side. That’s that’s what she did,” Joy Behar began, adding, “I’m surprised at her.”
“It’s an unforced error,” Sunny Hostin agreed. “Why do that? Why give the right more ammunition? They always go after her anyway, and I think it was really hypocritical actually — her statement. First of all, this has nothing to do with black history month. The point is she was not wearing a mask when she is one of those proponents of mask mandates, and she said, I think, in her statement, her people said that she asked to — she removed it — I’m sorry. She wore a mask to the school, but later removed it so she could be heard by students watching remotely, and for the photos on the condition that everyone around her was wearing masks. She should have worn a mask. That’s a lame excuse.”
“This happened the same week that Eric Garcetti got caught taking pictures without a mask,” Ana Navarro added, noting that Garcetti — after the pictures of him with NBA star Magic Johnson caused backlash — had simply claimed that he was holding his breath when he removed his mask.
“That’s ridiculous,” Hostin objected, and everyone laughed, and Navarro continued, “I think people really resent this idea of rules for thee but not for — rules for me but not for thee.”
Joy Behar argued that at least they were still better than people like Republican Governors Greg Abbott (TX) and Ron DeSantis (FL), who she claimed were telling people not to wear masks.
Sara Haines pushed back, saying that DeSantis and Abbott had always been against mandates — and that the real issue was Abrams being in favor of mandates while not wearing a mask herself.
“To come into a school where by the way, if I come into a school and that was the going norm, I would go ahead and just put my mask on even if I wasn’t planning on it, because you’re around these children and teachers and there are rules for that,” she said. “I think that — in her defense, she’s better than that. She knows better than that.”
“And it’s shocking because she’s such a good strategist. She strategizes,” Behar added.
“It was an unforced error of the worst sort and I don’t know that I necessarily believe that politicians are role models anymore, but to many people she is, but you want better from your role model. Model the correct behavior,” Hostin said.
Abrams, who initially tweeted and then deleted photos from the school visit claimed that she had taken the mask off “in consultation with the school nurse” and only when everyone around her continued to wear masks. She then complained that critics were engaging in an unfair political attack against her.
These tweets — with a photo showing Stacey Abrams maskless surrounded by masked children & showing Abrams promoting it from her own account — have now both been removed. (Abrams deleted her own tweet and it appears that the original account has been deactivated or something). pic.twitter.com/qzzAPolsE2

She then complained that critics were engaging in an unfair political attack against her, attempting to shame people for criticizing her during Black History Month and calling it a “pathetic, transparent, and silly attack.”
Our opponents took a brief break from licking Trump's boots this weekend to issue baseless attacks, and it's more of their typical dishonest, wannabe tough guy fodder to distract from their failures. See the @staceyabrams campaign response here 👇 pic.twitter.com/zOoTvkKKQg
