Kanye West is being mocked for his latest fashion collaboration with retail giant Gap due to his unique requests for merchandising the clothing.
Per Fox News, the rapper is allegedly insisting on selling the product line out of giant black bags that shoppers must dig through to find sizes rather than presenting the clothes on hangers like everything else at Gap. Apparently, this merchandising decision is part of the overall vibe of Yeezy Gap, which was said to be inspired by homeless individuals.
“Look to the children / Look to the homeless as the biggest inspiration for all design,” West posted to Instagram last week referencing the new collection.
Shoppers have been posting images of the store setup, mocking the “Flashing Lights” rapper for his out-of-the-box concept.
This is how they are selling Yeezy GAP. The sales associate said Ye got mad when he saw they had it on hangers and this is how he wanted it. They won’t help you find ur size too, you just have to just dig through everything pic.twitter.com/GNd08Zv1zC

“This is how they are selling Yeezy GAP. The sales associate said Ye got mad when he saw they had it on hangers and this is how he wanted it,” a Twitter user shared alongside a photo of the clothing in black bags. The post went viral with more than 57,000 likes. “They won’t help you find ur size too, you just have to just dig through everything.”
“Fishing a $240 hoodie out of a garbage bag,” another person quipped.
Another person shared a photo of the same black bags, but the clothing looked a bit less chaotic than the original poster’s image. “Everything was folded and they helped find sizes,” that user explained of their Gap experience.
Someone else voiced their contempt for West using homelessness as inspiration. They said there was “general pretentiousness that Ye made a weird demand from on his insanity throne so now everyone has to rummage through bags for an hour to find your size of what you’re looking for. It’s all performative and annoying.”
“Balenciaga & Kanye’s fetish with the homeless as ‘fashion muses’ it’s everything that is wrong with billionaires…they no longer see the plight of people, they don’t see humans that are suffering, they see opportunities to be “edgy” and profit from it…it’s disgusting,” someone else on Twitter shared.
The Yeezy Gap collection, which was created alongside fashion designer Balenciaga, consists of eight items including a reimagined classic Gap logo sweatshirt in gray plus unisex sweatpants and T-shirts, according to The Independent. The collaboration was described as “timeless silhouettes translated through the lens of Ye and Demna’s shared vision of utilitarian design.”
